EAR RESHAPING

Protruding or prominent ears is a congenital condition that can cause emotional distress for children as well as adults. Parents often relate that their child has complained of teasing from classmates and has asked them if their ears can be fixed. Adults sometimes express annoyance at having to wear their hair long to camouflage large ears. An otoplasty is performed to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of overly large ears. The surgery involves sculpting or folding ear cartilage into a new shape and all work is done from behind the ear so the final scar is hidden. The goal of an otoplasty is to create a more normal-appearing ear that looks natural.
