FACE
Several factors affect aging of the face: heredity, health, sun and wind exposure, smoking, etc. As we age, some predictable changes occur. These may include progressive loosening of the skin and soft tissues, allowing gravity to produce sagging. As the facial skin and soft tissues sag downward, typical signs of aging develop such as wrinkles, jowls, deepened folds, muscle bands on the neck, puffiness and lines on the eyelids. The various surgical lifts (facelift, neck lift, eyelid and brow) are designed to correct these problems by repositioning and firming up the saggy tissues and, thus, creating a more youthful, refreshed look.
However, other characteristics of facial aging, such as changes in skin texture, pigmentation and lines due to over-active expression muscles, don’t respond to surgical lifts and are better treated by non-surgical means. Some of these treatments include laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion, chemical peeling, injectable fillers (Collagen, Restylane, Hylaform) to soften lines, and home-based skin care programs. At your initial consultation, Dr. Schwartz will listen to your concerns, examine you carefully and recommend the most appropriate treatment to correct your problem and help you look your best.
